Magnesium Oil for Health

Essential to good health, magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. However, many people are deficient. Studies suggest that many Americans don’t get the recommended amount of magnesium daily, and the National Institutes of Health says that “there is concern that many people may not have enough body stores of magnesium because dietary intake may not be high enough. Having enough body stores of magnesium may be protective against disorders such as cardiovascular disease and immune dysfunction.”
Signs of magnesium deficiency include:
Loss of appetite
Nausea
Vomiting
Fatigue
Weakness
Numbness
Insomnia
Tingling
Restless leg syndrome
Irritability
Anxiety
High blood pressure
Muscle contractions and cramps
Seizures (sudden changes in behaviors caused by excessive electrical activity in the brain)
Personality changes
Abnormal heart rhythms
Coronary spasms
Severe magnesium deficiency can result in low levels of calcium in the blood (hypocalcaemia). Magnesium deficiency is also associated with low levels of potassium in the blood (hypokalemia).
Whole grains, legumes, and vegetables (especially dark-green, leafy vegetables) contain magnesium. However, increasing dietary intake of magnesium may not be enough to restore very low magnesium levels to normal. In this case, oral supplementation may help. But because magnesium supplements cause diarrhea for some, and because magnesium is poorly absorbed orally, magnesium oil is a great way to safely get extra magnesium. People with kidney disease may not be able to excrete excess amounts of magnesium, they should not take magnesium supplements unless prescribed by a physician.
Magnesium oil is not actually oil. Feeling oily when first applied, it is actually pure magnesium chloride, from evaporated sea water (Ancient Minerals is from the Zechstein seabed, which lies a mile deep below the surface of the earth in northern Europe. The pure magnesium chloride deposits in this seabed formed over 250 million years ago and have never been exposed to modern pollution or industrial contaminants and remain protected deep beneath the earth). The “oil” can be applied anywhere to the body, or even put in a bath, and the body will efficiently absorb it and transport it to where the magnesium is needed the most.
Not all magnesium is bioavailable, or even good for us. The following chart lists the stability constants of some common magnesium compounds, with lower stability constants reflecting higher bioavailability (“0”is best):

In addition to helping with the signs of magnesium deficiency, magnesium has been shown to be effective with anxiety, insomnia, Raynaud's Syndrome, PMS, glaucoma, peridontal diseases, hormonal imbalances, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia and emphysema; pharyngitis, tonsillitis, hoarseness, common cold, influenza, digestive problems, fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Obesity, autism, hypoglycemia, whooping cough, measles, rubella, mumps, scarlet fever; poisoning, gastro-enteritis, boils, abscesses, whitlow, infected wounds and osteomyelitis, osteoporosis, diabetes, migraines, hearing loss, metabolic syndrome, acute asthma attacks, shock, tetanus, herpes zoster, acute and chronic conjunctivitis, optic neuritis, rheumatic diseases, many allergic diseases, angina, prostate cancer, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and has shown beneficial effects in cancer therapy. (For more information, see Transdermal Magnesium Therapy by Mark Sircus).

Magnesium oil is easy to apply.  Simply spray the "oil" onto your body, following the doseage directions on the bottle.  Rub it in, and let it absorb for at least 20 minutes.  It does not need to be washed off, but it may leave a "salty" feel (like after you've gone for a dip in the ocean).  If the salt bothers you, feel free to wash off with plain water after it's absorbed.  The magnesium oil may feel itchy, or even sting, at first.  Be assured that this won't last.
